River Club at Myrtle Beach

Course description

River Club a semi private golf club, has proven to be one of the most challenging courses in the Myrtle Beach area. This Tom Jackson signature course was one of the first "plantation" style courses and has become a “premium” favorites among returning golfers. The Tract, true to its name, features wide-open fairways and large greens with some elevations and undulations and over 100 sand traps and bunkers.

The front nine is tree lined, while the back nine is lined with houses. On every hole has either a water hazard or one of the numerous bunkers come into play. Their signature hole, the 518-yard, par 5, 18 th was rated by the local "Sun News" as one of the best finishing holes in the area. Long hitters have some room off the tee, but approach shots need to be true. The dramatic par-5, 18th is unquestionably one of the finest finishing holes on the Grand Strand, offering risk and reward to those who can carry the water twice for a possible chance at eagle. Directions
From Myrtle Beach Airport:
Take Harrelson Boulevard to Highway 17 Bypass, Make a Left onto Highway 17 Bypass South, Take 17 South for about 15 miles, Go past Brook Green Garden and the course will be 3 miles on the Right

Diamond Back at Myrtle Beach

Course description
This modern Russell Breeden design is surrounded by unspoiled natural wetlands and low country forest. Diamond Back is the first course on the Grand Strand to offer Jensen Ultra Dwarf greens. Strategically placed bunkers and lakes allow for a challenging round of golf that will make you return year after year. This a fun course featuring topography and elevation changes of up to 65 feet, as well as the Jensen Ultra Dwarf Greens make for a distinct putting challenge.

Diamondback is a daunting course that will challenge even the most seasoned of golfers. The Diamondback course is located off Hwy 9 in the Northern End of Myrtle Beach. Golfers should be aware that virtually all of the courses along the low-lying Highway 9 corridor have problems with conditions and cart paths only are almost the norm, however, Diamondback is one tract that has much better drainage than the other Highway 9 courses. Directions

The course is set along the Lockwood Folly River, carved out of low country marshlands and offers golfers an endless variety of playing experiences. The 14,000 square foot putting/chipping green and the 320-yard driving range are great warm-up facilities. Carolina National Golf Club has three distinctive nines; Egret, Heron and IBIS, which play in a trio of 18-hole combinations. The course was designated to accommodate all skill levels through its innovative design and multiple tee placements. Just over 7,000 yards from the tips, the course will challenge the accomplished golfer, yet five sets of strategically placed tees offer an equally challenging test to golfers abilities. Directions

Burning Ridge at Myrtle Beach

Course description

Located just west of Myrtle Beach on U.S. 501 Burning Ridge features two pro style 18 hole courses. Both feature gently rolling fairways, towering pines, undulating greens and plenty of lakes. Theses courses are a shot makers test built for tournament play.

The first of the two courses at Burning Ridge the West course is the tightest of the two, and features medium-size greens, a fair number of bunkers and water - mostly on the left - on nearly every hole, sixteen to be exact. Both courses were designed by the great Gene Hamm and feature gently rolling fairways, towering trees and placid lakes. Directions
From the Myrtle Beach Airport:
Take Harrelson Boulevard to Highway 17 Bypass, Make a Right onto Highway 17 Bypass and head North until Route 501, Merge onto Route 501 North towards Conway, Take 501 N. for 5 - 6 miles, Once you pass the Domino's Pizza on your Right the course will 300 - 400 yards on your Left

Norman Course at Myrtle beach resort

Course description

The Barefoot Resort is a mixture of style and texture that makes up the 54 championship holes appropriately names for their designer. Each championship course offers a challenge to even the best of golfers.

Seven holes along the Intracoastal Waterway highlight Greg Norman's newest design at Barefoot Resort. Framed by the site's original vegetation, each hole enhances the beauty of its natural vistas. Combined with open green complexes and fairways running up to the sand, the Norman course presents a stunning challenge for any golfer. With only 60 acres of mowable grass existing on all 18 holes, Greg uses stunning waste areas and the site's natural vegetation to frame each hole. The course resembles one found in the deserts of the southwest, without the desert. The course also features several holes along the scenic intracoastal waterways.

One hole, for example, has fairways that flow into the native areas surrounding the course while another hole features fairway and a partial rough transitioning into the native areas. A third distinction is a formal rough that encompasses the entire golf hole. There are no angular or artificial lines in the shape of the course. Bunkers have sloping white faces (similar to a MacKenzie style golf course) with intermittent sod wall bunkering at strategic locations throughout the course. This challenging "bump and run" style design is a good test for ability as well as giving every skill level a good golf experience. Directions
From Myrtle Beach Airport:
Take Harrelson Boulevard to Highway 17 Bypass North, Make a Right and follow 17 until you reach Route 501, Take 501 North until you reach Highway 31 North (Carolina Bays Parkway), Take 31 N. until the exit for Highway 22 (Veteran's Highway), Take 22 East and head towards the town of North Myrtle Beach, At the end of 22 make a Left onto Highway 17 North, Continue through town on 17 until you see Alligator Adventure's and the House of Blues, Make a Left onto Bridge Road and cross the swing bridge into the resort. For the Dye Course, Make Right at Club House Drive. For Love, Norman & Fazio courses, take the next right for the clubhouse.

Arrowhead - Myrtle Beach

Course description

Arrowhead Country Club is Myrtle Beach's Premier 27-Hole Golf Complex located in Myrtle Beach. With a canvas of Bermuda Fairways and Bent Grass Greens, the team of Ray Floyd and Tom Jackson have created a 27-hole masterpiece along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway.

Arrowhead features three unique 9-hole tracts: The Waterway, The Cypress and The Lakes, each one with a feel all of its own. Working closely with architect Tom Jackson, Ray Floyd has designed one of the most unique and challenging courses in the Carolinas in 1994. Floyd who's influence was predominantly around the greens, gives each golfer a unique challenge, with the feel of a course set in the foot-hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Arrowhead may not be know to many golfers but it's excellent conditions, friendly and knowledgeable staff and challenging 27 holes course, makes for a perfect choice for an entire day of golf. Directions
From Myrtle Beach Airport:
Take Harrelson Boulevard to Highway 17 Bypass, Make a Right onto Highway 17 Bypass and head North until Route 501, Merge onto Route 501 North towards Conway, Take hwy. 501 North towards Conway, then follow signs to Forestbrook Rd. {2nd exit after waterway bridge}Go left at bottom of exit ramp approx. 150 yards to stop light. Take left at light {Outlet blvd.} then 3/4 of a mile to the Arrowhead sign.

Aberdeen Country Club - Myrtle Beach Golf Course

Course description

The logo of Aberdeen Country Club is reflective of the "Scottish" feel you'll experience at Aberdeen. It is a combination of the shield from the Scottish flag, the crown of Scotland, and the mythical Unicorn that in Scottish folklore was wild and untamable, but at times was the bringer of good luck!

This is one of Tom Jackson's premiere 27 hole facilities in the Myrtle Beach Golf Course area. Aberdeen is a Scottish Style Course located in North Myrtle Beach off Hwy 9. The 3 nines - "Meadows", "Highlands", and "Woodlands, each presents a different challenge to golfers. They are all tucked along a protected riverfront preserve, brimming with wildlife and fertile fairways. The Nines are aptly names to the areas they represent. These very demanding courses present golfers with seasonal water hazards that make accuracy and precise shot placement a must at Aberdeen Country Club. This course is not for golfers who do not like water. Almost every hole has water on it in some area. Directions
Take Highway 17 North to Route 9. Make a left on Route 9 heading West. Follow Highway 9 for 4 miles and the course entrance will be on your left.

South Myrtle Beach is a different world from Myrtle Beach proper. The South end of Myrtle Beach was much slower developing with beachfront only available at Huntington Beach, it is tucked between the Intra-coastal and various inlets, those inlets fed the many old rice plantations. A getaway in time as well as place. Read our article about golf on historic rice plantations.

You'll be taking a step back in time when you visit this favorite South Carolina destination. The old plantations have been magically transformed into today's golf courses and Myrtle Beach south golf courses are cream of the crop. If you're looking for Myrtle Beach golf getaways, then Myrtle Beach south is for you! You'll find top-rated golf courses, dream courses like Caledonia, True Blue, TPC, Pawleys Plantation. Myrtle Beach Golf South Carolina Pictures

Myrtle Beach Golf - This is truly a golf-lovers paradise. Drive through the area and you'll see one course after another, all waiting for you to explore. But with so many golf courses competing for your attention, you may wonder how you'll ever be able to limit yourself to just a couple of greens. Here's some of the hots spots.

Man O' War is one course that lives up to its name. Winding its way across a lake some 100 acres in size, the course offers substantial Bentgrass greens, a one-of-a-kind marina clubhouse, and a practice range. The lake may help you to define holes, but watch out! It can easily turn into your biggest adversary. Tees include championship level, regular, seniors, and ladies. The championship section has a yardage of 6967, a rating of 72.4 and a slope of 130. The regular course has a yardage of 6402, a rating of 69.5, and a slope of 120. Seniors can play on a course of 5729 yardage, 67.0 rating, and 108 slope, while the ladies must compete on a yardage of 5033, with a rating of 71.2 and a slope of 114.

Beachfront paradise - Myrtle Beach Golf

If you have never visited Myrtle Beach before, you may be shocked at just how many golf courses there are in this beachfront paradise. The area is home to more than 120 courses and, while many have gained world-wide fame over the years, others prefer to remain quiet, unassuming golfing getaways. What follows is just a short description of some of the courses you'll find off the beaten path.

In North Strand, Lockwood Folly Country Club is home to what may be one of the area's best holes: the 18th, a 453-yard par 5 that extends up to the Intracoastal Waterway. Designed by Willard Byrd, the course is located where the Lockwood Folly River and the Intracoastal Waterway meet. The course is well-conditioned, and the service represents some of the best the Mid-Atlantic has to offer. Another North Strand jewel is the Brunswick Plantation, perhaps one of the most underrated courses in all of Myrtle Beach. The Magnolia Nine sports a Scottish flavor, with the Azalea and Dogwood Nines offering a tree-lined Carolina touch. The course's Plantation House is also one of the region's best-respected clubhouses.

On the South Strand, you might want to sample the Tradition Club in Pawleys Island. The Golf Course Owners Association named it South Carolina Golf Course of the year in 2000, saving it from complete anonymity. The work of Ron Garl, the Tradition Club is still the underdog when compared to well-known South Strand clubs such as True Blue, Caledonia, Pawleys Plantation, and the TPC of Myrtle Beach. The course is definitely inland, but includes some water hazards in the form of ponds.

For one of the better courses under $50, test out the International Club in Murrells Inlet. Designed by Willard Byrd, the course is now managed by the Classics Group. The holes offer a great deal of variety, but the course itself is considered no-frills.

You might want to also explore Central and West Strand for more golfing options. For an invigorating warm-up, try South Creek at Myrtle Beach National. Inspired by golfing legend Arnold Palmer, the layout is short and forgiving, making it the perfect place to flex your muscles before heading to the Strand's longer courses.

While they may not earn a great deal of publicity, these lesser-known courses can provide just as much enjoyment as their better-known competitors.

Consider them the hidden treasures of the Myrtle Beach golf scene, and well worth the time to check out.
